NATION : Woman to Head Houston Police

HOUSTON —
Mayor Kathy Whitmire today named a woman to head the city’s police department and if she is confirmed Houston will apparently be the largest U.S. police force to be directed by a woman.
Deputy Chief Elizabeth Watson, 40, was Whitmire’s choice to succeed Lee Brown, who stepped down to become police commissioner in New York City.
