No Bombs Found After Downtown Block Closed
A block of South Broadway between 1st and 2nd streets was closed to pedestrian and automobile traffic for nearly two hours Friday evening while the Los Angeles police bomb squad checked out a briefcase and two lunch boxes in front of the State Building.
They turned out to be empty.
State Police Lt. R.E. Hulbert Jr. said a transient spotted the three objects lying at a “suspicious angle” in a planter and reported them shortly before 6 p.m. Police lines were taken down about 7:45 p.m.
