The Hall of Fame Game: Just Who Will Rock ‘n’ Roll to Glory?

Share

Just when you thought it was safe to read the Calendar pop music section . . . it’s Nightmare on Hilburn Street, Part 3--the third annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame predictions (Robert Hilburn’s Jan. 14 article, “The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Derby”).

As in the past two years, the logic of Hilburn’s “percentage” scale escapes me. He concedes that the Hall of Fame voters are shifting toward more commercially successful artists rather than “significant” ones, yet he gives the Replacements, a band that has little more than a cult following, a 35% chance of induction. The far more commercially successful (and deserving) Duran Duran gets a paltry 5%.
