Mayor Named to Housing Post
Mayor Roger Chandler has been named police chief of the Los Angeles Housing Authority, nine months after he retired as a lieutenant in the county Sheriff’s Department.
Chandler, 45, said that he had intended to start a second career at the executive level and that he was “tickled” by the appointment, which became effective last week.
A 24-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, and an Arcadia councilman since 1986, he earned his master’s degree in public administration from USC in 1973.
In his new position, Chandler supervises 50 police officers and 25 security guards who patrol 21 low-income apartment complexes in Los Angeles. He will continue in his duties as mayor.
