WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : VanEmbricqs Gives UCLA Victory Over Cal, 70-68

Sandra VanEmbricqs scored on a three-foot bank shot with three seconds to play to give UCLA a 70-68 victory over California Saturday night at Pauley Pavilion.

Rehema Stephens scored 25 points to lead the Bruins while VanEmbricqs had 15.

UCLA is 4-1 in Pacific 10 play and 9-6 overall.

In a physical game, the Bruins lost the services of senior center Sheri Bouldin for at least six weeks after she dislocated her shoulder.

UCLA, already with a thin roster, has only eight active players.

Teresa Palimisano led the Bears with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Stanford 98, USC 67--Jennifer Azzi scored 17 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Cardinal against the Trojans at the Lyon Center.

Julie Zeilstra (16 points) and Katy Steding (12) were other key contributors for the Cardinal.

Tammy Hodge had 19 points for the Trojans who fell to 1-4 and 3-9.

Stanford is 6-0 and 15-0. The 15 consecutive wins since the start of the season breaks a school record that had been set two years ago.

CS Long Beach 107, UC Santa Barbara 77--Dana Wilkerson scored 33 points on 12 of 15 shooting to lead the 49ersto an easy win at the Events Center in Santa Barbara.

Coryna Truitt led Santa Barbara with 30 points.
