LA HABRA : Home Development Wins Latest Round

Share

City officials have approved the construction of five homes, despite unanswered questions regarding drainage.

American Coastal Development Corp. of Fullerton initially sought approval for construction of eight homes on the 2.15-acre property in the 1400 block of North Euclid Street. The number was reduced to five early last year.

In December, the Planning Commission recommended approval of the project, with a number of conditions, but neighboring residents continued to express concerns about the development’s impact.

Lynn Pope, whose property is next to the development site, said he is concerned about the stability of the land. His home suffered substantial damage in the 1987 earthquake and could be damaged again by the movement of heavy construction equipment, he said.

Council members said the developer is legally responsible for repairing any damage caused by construction.

Councilman William D. Mahoney expressed concerns about drainage for the project, saying he thought the plans may be inadequate for the steep incline of the site.

Final approval of the development plan is scheduled for Feb 5.
