Latino Attorney Named to Public Works Board

Percy Duran, a Latino attorney and chairman of the board of a solid-waste recycling company, was named Monday by Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley to the city’s Board of Public Works.

Duran, whose appointment to the city’s only full-time paid commission must be approved by the City Council, would replace Ed Avila, who resigned as board president to become one of Bradley’s two deputy mayors.

Since August, 1988, Duran served as chairman of the board and general counsel to Perdomo & Sons, a solid-waste recycling management firm. Earlier, he served as vice president and general counsel for the United Savings Bank and United Bank in San Francisco.
