Paramount : Consultant Hired to Study Year-Round School Plan

Share

The Paramount Unified School District Board of Education has hired a consultant to study the feasibility of a year-round schedule to relieve overcrowded classroom conditions.

The firm of Jack Schreder & Associates of Sacramento has been hired for $6,250 to conduct the study, which is expected to be completed in 90 days. The study will include an analysis of projected enrollment, effect on the community and the cost of implementation.

There are more than 12,500 students currently enrolled in the district. And the district does not have any vacant land for expansion, Supt. Richard B. Caldwell said.

A second floor is being built on the district’s only high school, Paramount High, to ease overcrowding. Wirtz Elementary School, which was converted to accommodate about 600 high school students, will be reopened as an elementary school as soon as the second-story addition is completed in September.
