COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Clemson Cashes In at Buzzer, 91-90

Marion Cash made six free throws in the final 32 seconds and sank a three-point basket at the buzzer as unranked Clemson beat No. 13 Georgia Tech, 91-90, in an Atlantic Coast Conference game at Clemson, S.C., Thursday night.

The Tigers (15-3 overall, 4-1 in the ACC), who led by 13 points in the first half, stretched a 50-39 halftime lead to 67-46. But Georgia Tech (12-3, 2-3) made five three-point baskets to key a 26-6 run that pulled them within 73-72 with 6:31 left.

For the Tigers, Dale Davis scored 25 points, Elden Campbell had 22 and Cash had 20.

No. 6 Arkansas 109, Texas 100--Oliver Miller scored eight of his 19 points down the stretch and Todd Day had a career-high 34 points to lead the Razorbacks (16-2, 8-0) into first place in the Southwest Conference in a game at Fayetteville, Ark.

The Longhorns’ (13-4, 6-1) Travis Mays, the SWC’s leading scorer, suffered an injury to his shooting hand midway through the first half and did not return.

No. 7 Michigan 86, Northwestern 79--Terry Mills, Loy Vaught and Sean Higgins led a second-half charge that lifted the Wolverines from a seven-point deficit to a Big Ten victory at Evanston, Ill.

Mills led the Wolverines (14-3, 4-2) with 26 points, Higgins had 24 and Vaught 23. Rex Walters had 24 points for the Wildcats (7-9, 0-6).

No. 10 Illinois 66, Wisconsin 63--Stephen Bardo hit the go-ahead basket with 1:22 remaining, then made two free throws with 18 seconds left as the Illini fought off the Badgers for a Big Ten victory at Madison, Wis.

The Illini (14-3, 4-3), blew a 14-point second-half lead before recovering for their second victory over Wisconsin (11-8, 2-5) this season.

No. 13 Purdue 78, Ohio St. 66--At Columbus, Ohio, Woody Austin scored 18 points--15 in the second half--to help the Boilermakers remain undefeated in the Big Ten.

It was the seventh consecutive victory for Purdue (14-2, 8-0). Ohio State is 8-8 and 3-4.

No. 18 La Salle 87, Niagara 69--Lionel Simmons scored 25 points and two other players scored in double figures to lead the Explorers (14-1, 5-0) to a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory at Niagara Falls, N.Y. Niagara is 3-14 and 2-5.

No. 21 Minnesota 84, Iowa 72--Melvin Newbern scored 17 points--including two three-point baskets--as the Gophers scored the first 10 points and rolled to a Big Ten victory over the Hawkeyes (9-7, 1-5) at Minneapolis.

No. 25 Xavier 88, Detroit 83--Tyrone Hill scored 23 points to lead the Musketeers (14-2, 4-1) to a Midwestern Collegiate Conference victory over the Titans (8-10, 1-4) at Cincinnati.
