Official Halts Gutting of Building
A Culver City building inspector said he has stopped the gutting of the interior of the helicopter factory on the site of the proposed Marina Place regional shopping center because the developer failed to obtain a demolition permit.
“Once you start taking apart the building, you need a permit,” said the building inspector, Michael Bowden.
A spokeswoman for the developer, Prudential Property Co., said last week that the work inside the factory was being done “in anticipation of getting our approvals.”
Marina Place faces stiff opposition from Venice community activists and Los Angeles City Councilwoman Ruth Galanter.
A public hearing on the proposed shopping center is set for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Linwood Howe Elementary School in Culver City.
