CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : BRIDGEPORT : Court Fines Water District in Nevada

In an unusual water-rights dispute, a Mono County Justice Court jury has convicted a drought-stricken Nevada water district of illegally draining a reservoir it owns in California and killing thousands of fish in the East Walker River. The irrigation district, which serves 150 Nevada ranchers, did not get approval from California Fish and Game authorities before draining the reservoir. Judge Ed Forstenzer set sentencing for Feb. 13.
