Ripston Hosts Talk Show: Ramona Ripston on Tuesday became the first woman since 1982 to regularly host a weekday news-oriented talk show at KABC-AM (790), debuting as Bill Pearl’s adversary on “Point-Counterpoint.” Ripston, the long-time executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, replaced Bill Press, who resigned Monday to seek the Democratic nomination for State Insurance Commissioner. The last woman to host a weekday news-oriented talk show at KABC was Carole Hemingway, who was fired in 1982.
