Pat Cash Named to Aussie Team

Former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash, a late substitute, and three others will represent Australia for first-round Davis Cup play against France that starts here Friday.

Cash, recovering from an Achilles’ tendon injury in Japan last April, will play doubles in the Feb. 2-4 event, to be played on grass at the Royal King’s Park courts. Cash, 24, winner of the 1987 Wimbledon singles title, was a late replacement for Mark Kratzmann on the Australian team.

Cash was not included on the original four-man team, named last week by Fraser. He accompanied the team to Perth as an alternate.

He has yet to play a tournament singles match but played doubles at the NSW Open in Sydney and the Australian Open.

The Australian team named today by captain Neale Fraser was Wally Masur, Darren Cahill, John Fitzgerald and Cash.
