KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Michael Manley’s wife was granted a divorce on grounds that her 17-year marriage “has broken down irretrievably.”
Beverley Lois Anderson, 48, the prime minister’s fourth wife, told Divorce Court Judge Courtney Orr that Manley’s political career and frequent travel contributed to the breakdown of their marriage.
She said the couple’s children, David, 8, and Natasha, 15, who live with her, would be allowed to visit their father regularly until custody is decided.
Since their marriage in 1972, Anderson has been president of the governing center-left People’s National Party’s women’s movement.
The 64-year-old prime minister’s first two marriages ended in divorce. His third wife died four years before his marriage to Anderson.
