Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

Is this a rut or what? These days the big news of the week on the pop-music chart front invariably concerns Paula Abdul. This time she’s No. 1 on both Billboard pop charts--”Forever Your Girl” continues as the No. 1 album and “Opposites Attract” inched up one notch to the top of the singles chart. Michael Bolton’s “Soul Provider” climbed four places to No. 12. The B-52’s “Cosmic Thing” moved to No. 5, on the strength of the red-hot single “Roam.”

* Roxette’s “Look Sharp!” is lookin’ good! It scrambled up nine rungs to No. 20. This nearly year-old album is getting a boost from the single “Dangerous,” which jumped to No. 7 on the singles chart.
