Eli Lilly & Co.: The pharmaceutical maker said profit for 1989 rose 23% to $939.5 million on sales of $4.2 billion, a 16% increase from the previous year. The Indianapolis-based firm attributed the results to sales growth in each of its operations. For the fourth quarter, net income rose 28% to $225.3 million on sales of $1.15 billion, up 18% from the year-ago period. Tables, D12
