USD, winner of three in a row and seven of 10, is tied with Pepperdine for second in the WCC heading into two critical games in the Pacific Northwest. The Toreros defeated both opponents in San Diego last week: Gonzaga, 68-58, on Saturday and Portland, 76-55, on Thursday. John Jerome leads the Toreros in scoring (19.3) and rebounding (7.0). In WCC games, he is averaging 20 points, Pat Holbert 14 and Craig Cottrell 10.1. Holbert is second in the nation in three-point percentage at .559, behind Arkansas’ Lee Mayberry (.563), and has made 27 of 31 free throws. Guard Gylan Dottin (broken nose) will be able to play for the first time in three games. Center Brooks Barnhard (ankle) is questionable. Gonzaga, loser of six in a row, is led by senior guard Jim McPhee (23.2 average), who had 26 against USD Saturday.
