Former President Ronald Reagan today agreed to give videotaped testimony at former aide John M. Poindexter’s Iran-Contra trial.

In a court filing, Reagan’s lawyers asked that the former President be allowed to give the deposition in Los Angeles on Feb. 16, four days before Poindexter’s trial is scheduled to begin on charges of conspiracy, obstructing Congress and making false statements in the Iran-Contra affair.

Reagan, who asserted executive privilege Monday in connection with about 30 diary entries he has been ordered to turn over to Poindexter, said he won’t assert the privilege with regard to a videotaped deposition.

“The former President has determined to accept and comply with the court’s judgment that a videotaped deposition is an appropriate vehicle for the resolution of these difficult issues,” said Theodore Olson, one of Reagan’s lawyers.
