COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Women Wrap Up Orange Empire Conference

Golden West College won the Orange Empire Conference women’s basketball title with a 113-52 victory over Saddleback Friday at Saddleback.

Bits Sirchia scored 19 points, including five three-pointers, Donna Gondringer had 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Micki Hamilton had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Golden West (30-1, 11-0). Shannon Garnos scored 24 points and had nine rebounds for Saddleback (13-14, 4-6).

Fullerton 65, Rancho Santiago 47--Candi Burnett, Vicki Evans and Nicki Durity each scored 10 for visiting Fullerton (15-12, 7-3). Charisse Simon scored a season-high 25 for Rancho Santiago (7-15, 2-8).

In the Cypress baseball tournament:

Golden West 4, Citrus 3--Steve McKowen singled with the bases loaded and one out in the ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie for host Golden West (4-0). Brian Mena hit a two-run home run to give Golden West a 3-2 lead in the eighth, but Citrus rallied for a run in the top of the ninth to tie it. Mena had three hits for Golden West.

Cypress 10, Citrus 7--Steve Rath had four hits and five RBIs to lead Cypress in the loser’s bracket. Ken Tolbert (2-0) pitched the first 5 1/3 innings for the victory. Kevin Ehl had four strikeouts in the final two innings for the save.

Cypress rallied for five runs in the eighth inning to defeat El Camino, 8-5, earlier Friday at Rancho Santiago College. In the eighth inning, Doug McConathy led off with his second home run and Jason Bates had a two-run double. In the Southwestern tournament:

Fullerton 9, Southwestern 1--Steve Trachsel (2-0) had 11 strikeouts in the complete-game victory. Jim Vlcek hit a solo home run, Willie Speakman had three hits, and Jeff Manship and Gary Mota had two hits each for Fullerton.

Tom Kelly had five strikeouts in eight innings as Fullerton defeated Los Angeles Valley, 7-4, in the first game. Mota had a double, triple, home run and four RBIs for Fullerton.

Rancho Santiago 8, Oxnard 5--Matt Lackie allowed five hits and two earned runs in nine innings for Rancho Santiago (5-0). Marty Neff and Steve Grack had first-inning home runs for the Dons.

Los Angeles Harbor 8, Orange Coast 5--Rod McCall had two home runs and four RBIs for OCC (4-4). OCC also defeated Grossmont, 3-2.

In the Rancho Santiago softball tournament:

Cypress 12, Rancho Santiago 0--Rose Ferrante had four hits and three RBIs, and Teresa Anderson had three hits and three RBIs for Cypress.

Cypress defeated Cerritos, 3-0, earlier as Laura Corson (1-0) allowed three hits.
