Craig Stadler sank a chip and a pair of 30-foot putts during a round of five-under-par 67 Friday at Waialea Country Club in Honolulu to take a one-shot lead midway through the Hawaiian Open golf tournament.

Stadler’s 36-hole total of six-under-par 138 is one better than Paul Azinger (67), David Ishii (67) and rookie Grant Waite (67).

Veterans Hubert Green and Lanny Wadkins led a group of five at 140. Also at that figure were Jeff Hart, rookie Peter Persons and defending champion Gene Sauers.
