Railway Artists: Los Angeles-based artists Carl Cheng, Charles Dickson, Daniel Martinez, Renee Petropoulos and Richard Turner are the first artists selected under the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission’s Art for Rail Transit program. The artists, who will each receive a $20,000 design fee, will work with architects on the final design of Metro Rail stations at the El Segundo end of the Metro Green Line, which will run along part of the new Century Freeway and is scheduled for completion in 1994. The artists will help design such station elements as lighting, guardrails, canopies and seating. According to program administrator Jessica Cusick, each artist will have a $50,000 budget.
