CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Double Bay Bridge Toll, Kopp Urges
- Share via
State Sen. Quentin Kopp proposed a doubling of the Bay Bridge toll to $2 so the extra revenue can be used to reduce the cost of traveling on mass transit in the San Francisco Bay Area. Kopp, a San Francisco independent, told a Capitol news conference that he intends to introduce legislation that will authorize the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to impose the toll increase. He said the extra money would be used to establish free bus transfers to Bay Area Rapid Transit, a two-for-one price on BART during off-peak hours, an automatic toll collection system, high-speed water transit and necessary feeder bus services, and motorist assistance on approaches to the bridge.
