SHORT TAKES : People’s Choice Awards Expand

The People’s Choice Awards has gone international in adding two new categories to its upcoming awards ceremonies.
Top vote-getters in the new category of World Favorite Motion Picture Actor are Dustin Hoffman, Paul Newman and Sylvester Stallone. In the companion category of World Favorite Motion Picture Actress, there are the venerable Jane Fonda, Meryl Streep and Elizabeth Taylor.
Those were the names that popped to the top of a special Gallup Organization poll which asked more than 18,000 people in 15 nations for their favorite actors and actresses. The 15 nations polled represent about 84% of all foreign rentals of U.S. films.
For the first time, the March 11 awards will be hosted by a trio--actress Valerie Harper, singer Barbara Mandrell and teen-age actor Fred Savage. CBS will broadcast the awards live.
