The first month of the new decade brought with it $19.4 million for county cities--the State Board of Equalization’s latest allocation of sales and use tax revenues. The $2.45 million sent to Anaheim was the largest amount for any one city and 13% of the total sent to municipal coffers. Costa Mesa, however, scored the largest per-capita allocation. Villa Park had both the smallest total and per-capita amounts.

The county’s total allocation this month, $20.66 million ranked it above all of the contiguous counties except Los Angeles. Our per-capita amount, however, was highest of the five.

Each month city and county governments and other governmental organizations receive payments from the state in anticipation of actual sales tax revenues. In the fourth month, they receive a cleanup payment--the difference between actual revenues and the amounts previously received--plus the first advance payment for the next quarter. The amounts listed here are for the second advance payment for the fourth quarter of 1989.
