Louisiana State’s Chris Jackson scored 41 points, but it was the six free throws in the waning minutes by Kentucky’s Richie Farmer that proved to be the telling factor Thursday night as the Wildcats upset the No. 9 Tigers, 100-95, in a Southeastern Conference game at Lexington, Ky.

The victory, the fourth in a row for the Wildcats (13-10, 9-5), snapped LSU’s seven-game winning streak and avenged a Jan. 13 loss to the Tigers.

The Tigers trailed, 87-70, but rallied behind Jackson, whose three-point basket capped a 22-7 run that cut the deficit to 94-92 with 1:12 to play.

But Farmer hit both ends of a one-and-one, then made two more free throws 17 seconds later to give Kentucky a 98-92 edge.

Jackson hit his seventh three-point basket to cut the margin to 98-95 with 41 seconds left. But Kentucky worked 33 seconds off the clock before Jackson fouled Farmer, who made both free throws for the final margin.

“I just tried to close my mind and shoot them like I do in practice,” Farmer said.

Seven-footer Shaquille O’Neal, who fouled out with 6:52 left, added 14 points for LSU.
