Hot Line Set Up to Help Birds Soaked by Oil
Environmental officials have set up a telephone hot line for Orange County residents to report sightings of oil-stricken birds.
Victor Leipzig, executive director of the Bolsa Chica Conservancy, said strong winds coming off the ocean have blown some of the birds into inland areas, miles beyond the beach.
“We’re urging people not to try to pick up the birds. Instead, we want them to use a special phone line to call, and we’ll dispatch someone to rescue the bird,” Leipzig said.
He said the number to call is (714) 536-0202, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
