BODY AGAINST BODY The Dance and Other Collaborations of Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane edited by Elizabeth Zimmer and Susan Quasha (Station Hill: $17.95, illustrated)

Share

One of the foremost choreographer/performance teams in post-modern dance, Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane created challenging, innovative works in collaboration with Robert Longo, Keith Haring and other artists. Like their dances, this book defies neat categorization. A collage of reviews, photographs, monologues, reminiscences and reflections, it stands as a memorial to their collaboration: Zane died of AIDS in 1988. Jones continues to work, confronting the loss of his lover through movement. The reader of “Body Against Body” is left to contemplate the toll the disease is taking in the arts community and to reflect on what the premature death of so many young artists means to the performing arts, to their audience and to humanity.
