COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Miller Gets Record 43, but Titan Women Lose in Basketball

Cal State Fullerton got the basketball to Genia Miller again and again Saturday against 16th-ranked Hawaii, and Miller responded with 43 points, breaking her school record of 38.

Though the Titans (11-12, 6-8) stayed close until the final eight minutes, Hawaii wore them down to take an 80-60 victory and improve its record to 22-2 overall, 13-2 in the Big West Conference. The Wahines’ only losses were to third-ranked Nevada Las Vegas.

Miller, who also had 20 rebounds to equal her career high, made 15 of 26 shots and 13 of 16 free throws.

In another Big West Conference game:

Cal State Long Beach 114, UC Irvine 43--Penny Moore scored 21 points to lead five Cal State Long Beach players in double figures as the 12th-ranked 49ers (19-5, 12-2) defeated UC Irvine (1-22, 0-14).

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s basketball:

Cal State Bakersfield 94, Chapman 54--Bakersfield (22-3, 10-2) clinched the conference championship. Roger Middleton scored 24 to lead Chapman (11-13, 3-11). Ray Burris had 21 for Bakersfield.

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball:

Southern California College 70, California Baptist College 68--Jeff Bickmore led visiting SCC (21-7, 9-2) with 20 points.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:

California Baptist College 82, Southern California College 68--Cal Baptist’s fast break wore down Southern California College (11-15, 3-6). Jennifer Hartigan scored 14 points and Lori Halliday had 13 for SCC.

At the University of Arizona softball tournament:

Cal State Fullerton 5, UCLA 0--In the last game of the pool round, Cal State Fullerton (9-4, 4-2) had 10 hits to UCLA’s three.

Cal State Fullerton 3, Pacific 0--In the first game of the single-elimination round, Fullerton took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and scored its third run in the third. At the Southwest Cup tournament of men’s gymnastics at Arizona State, Cal State Fullerton finished fourth with 271.9 points. UCLA won with 277.4 points, Arizona State (275.8) was second and Oklahoma (275.75) was third. Fullerton’s Eli Rodriguez won the vault with a score of 9.6.
