Azusa : Donation Rule Amended
Cash campaign contributions up to $100 are again legal under an urgency ordinance adopted by the City Council in a 4-1 vote.
The ordinance, effective immediately, amends one adopted last month to ban all cash contributions. The city clerk’s office requested the amendment because of the “monumental task” of auditing all the checks and money orders.
“We also want to make it easier for the public,” said Connie Lara, assistant city clerk. “Not everyone has a checking account, and if they want to make a $5 donation they would have to get a cashier’s check.”
Mayor Eugene Moses, however, voted against it at Tuesday’s council meeting, saying: “We should keep the ordinance as tough as possible.”
