From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Under terms of a plea bargain calling for a 42-year prison term, a former Boy Scout leader pleaded guilty in Barstow Superior Court to 18 counts of committing lewd acts upon a child. The pleas by James Buxton, 43, of Twentynine Palms, involved 15 members of Wonder Valley Boy Scout Troop 341, between Feb. 1, 1988, and Nov. 6, 1988. San Bernardino County Deputy Dist. Atty. Linda K. Root said the plea agreement avoids the questioning and cross-examination of young witnesses in court. Buxton is scheduled to be sentenced March 23. Another man charged in the case, assistant scoutmaster David Reed, 38, earlier pleaded guilty to 16 molestation counts and was sentenced to 38 years in prison.
