STATE : Lake Search Teams Take Day Off

The search for the last of seven people who drowned in frozen Convict Lake Monday was suspended today to allow divers to rest and organizers to gather more equipment. “We’re regrouping for another attack,” said Mono County Sheriff-Coroner Martin Strelneck.
The loaned air-propelled boat that had carried the rescue team on their search for two days was sent back to Truckee, Nev., because it may be needed for rescues in dangerous ice conditions there, Strelneck said. Another boat is being sought for the Convict Lake recovery.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department diving team, which Wednesday recovered five bodies, returned home today. It is unclear whether they will return when the search resumes. A sixth body was recovered Tuesday.
