The Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission voted unanimously to reject the Minnesota North Star owners’ demands for $15 million in improvements to Met Center in Bloomington, Minn. But the commission said it would allow Bloomington to raise the $15 million with a bond issue to be paid off with a new tax on hotels and restaurants.
After the meeting, owners Gordon and George Gund said they do not believe further discussions with the commission would be fruitful.
“We can’t make it here and that’s been proven,” Gordon Gund said. “But if you get someone fresh, they might be able to break the logjam that we haven’t.”
The owners said they plan to move the franchise to the San Francisco Bay Area unless they can sell the team to local interests.
