Right-hander Doug Drabek won his salary case today, earning a $775,000 pay raise and giving the players a 5-3 edge over the Pittsburgh Pirates in arbitration hearings.

Drabek, who is 29-19 the last two seasons, will get $1.1 million this season instead of the Pirates’ $750,000 offer. Drabek made $325,000 in 1989.

Last season, Drabek was 14-12 with a 2.80 earned run average in 35 appearances, all but one of them starts for the fifth-place Pirates. He had five shutouts among his eight complete games and earned a save in his only relief appearance. He struck out 123 and walked 69 in 244.1 innings.
