Raceway Begins Registration for Coors Stock Car Series

The Ventura Raceway will begin its open registration period for cars and drivers who wish to compete in the 1990 Coors Silver Bullet Stock Car Racing Series beginning Saturday at the Ventura Raceway offices at 2810 West Wooley Road in Oxnard.

All drivers and car owners must register early to reserve their car numbers, which will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis for the racing season. The season opens Friday, March 30 at the Ventura Fairgrounds track.

The raceway will hold a second registration day Saturday, March 24 at the raceway, with that day also being an open practice session for all classes of cars.

Ventura Raceway track director Cliff Morgan said that over $60,000 of improvements have been made to the quarter-mile dirt oval for the upcoming season, which runs through Nov. 17.

The racing season will consist of the Street Stock and Mini Stocks running Friday nights and the return of the United States Auto Club Western States Midget Series, the Winged Outlaw Mini Sprints, three-quarter Midgets, and the Ventura Motocross Series running on selected Saturday nights.

Street Stock Oval Champ, Charles Utts of Camarillo and Mini Stock Oval Track and Figure-8 Champ, Rock Ake, Jr. of Moorpark are expected to defend their 1989 titles.

Camarillo’s Jeff Bosley, the 1989 Street Stock Figure-8 champion will not defend his title because he is on active duty with the Navy and has been transfered out of the area for one year.

Tryouts for the Foothill Little League Senior Division (13-15 year-olds) will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Balboa Middle School in Ventura. Coaches are also being recruited.
