GOLF ROUNDUP : Trevino Remains Hot, Helps U. S. Take 12-4 Lead
Lee Trevino continued his domination of the Senior Tour with six birdies Thursday to help the United States take a 12-4 lead over the International team in the first round of the $600,000 Chrysler Cup at Sarasota, Fla.
Trevino and Chi Chi Rodriguez beat Bruce Crampton and Bob Charles 4 and 2 in the better-ball match play format.
In the other matches, Arnold Palmer and Orville Moody of the United States beat Roberto DeVicenzo and Peter Thomson, 1-up; Al Geiberger and Dave Hill of the U.S. team beat Bruce Devlin and Billy Dunk, 4 and 3, and Gary Player and Harold Henning of the International team beat Miller Barber and Don Bies, 2 and 1.
Cathy Gerring, Elaine Crosby and Patty Sheehan were the steadiest performers on an up-and-down day, shooting three-under-par 69s to share the lead after the opening round of the $350,000 Hawaiian Ladies Open at Honolulu.
