Roy Marble of the Atlanta Hawks was suspended by the NBA for the remainder of the season Thursday for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

The team announced that Duane Ferrell, a former member of the Hawks, has been signed to a 10-day contract as a roster replacement for Marble.

Marble, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard from Iowa, was the 23rd player chosen in June’s draft.

Hawk spokesman Arthur Triche said the team had no comment on the suspension.

Marble averaged 2.1 points and one rebound in 24 games with Atlanta.

Ferrell, a former Georgia Tech star who was cut during training camp, averaged 24.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in 40 games this season with Topeka of the Continental Basketball Assn. Ferrell averaged 2.4 points in 41 games with the Hawks last season.
