Second-seeded Boris Becker beat Miloslav Mecir of Czechoslovakia 6-4, 6-2 today to reach the semifinals of the $1-million ATP tennis tournament.

In another quarterfinal, sixth-seeded Horst Skoff of Austria was upset 6-2, 6-4 by unseeded Jonas Svensson of Sweden.

Becker’s victory came in his first meeting with Mecir since the Australian Open last month when Becker came from behind to win after Mecir took a 6-4, 7-6 lead. Becker won the next three sets.
