Share

The Toronto Maple Leafs bounced back from their most humiliating defeat to beat the Edmonton Oilers, 6-5, Friday night at Edmonton.

In a game Thursday night at Calgary, which Coach Doug Carpenter said was their worst performance, the Maple Leafs were trounced by the Stanley Cup champion Flames, 12-2.

The Maple Leafs trailed, 5-3, after two periods Friday night, but rallied behind Vincent Damphousse.

Damphousse scored the tying goal on a power play that gave Toronto its second goal in less than four minutes of the final period. He scored the winner with 3:12 left in regulation.

New York Rangers 6, Washington 3--Rookie goaltender Mike Richter starred on both defense and offense at Landover, Md., and the Rangers regained first place in the Patrick Division.

Richter stopped 30 shots and also had two assists when his quick outlet passes were turned into goals.

The Rangers are 4-0-1 in their past five games.

Buffalo 7, Hartford 3--Soviet rookie Alexander Mogilny, side lined for six games, had a goal and an assist for the Sabres at Buffalo.

Mogilny missed the recent trip because he was undergoing counseling for his fear of flying.
