* NEW CHURCH: A little more than five years after fire destroyed the historic First Presbyterian Church of Pomona, members of the 107-year-old congregation will gather today at 3 p.m. to dedicate a new sanctuary.

* BLACK HISTORY: The County of Los Angeles Public Library and Supervisor Kenneth Hahn will honor actress Marla Gibbs for her contributions to the black community and its culture at ceremonies from 2-4 p.m. today at the A. C. Bilbrew Library, 150 El Segundo Blvd. in Los Angeles.

* HISTORIC THEATER: Lawyers for the city of Whittier will ask a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge to allow the city to demolish the historic Whittier Theater, which was damaged in the 1987 earthquake. The hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday in downtown Los Angeles.

* FAIR HOUSING: The Metro Harbor Fair Housing Council will host an training session Tuesday evening for volunteers on methods of investigating housing discrimination practices in the sale and rental of property. The session will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the council’s Harbor City office at 25324 Frampton Ave.
