Le Boucher

(1970) Bravo, Thursday at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. In this suspense thriller concerned with the dualism in human nature, Claude Chabrol, at the top of his form, plays for all its worth the contrast between the loveliness of rural southwestern France and the friendliness and kindliness of its inhabitants and a series of grisly murders that strike a small community. Stephane Audran and Jean Yanne star.

America, America

(1963) Bravo, Saturday at 2 p.m. Elia Kazan’s exhilarating film from his own novel about the turn-of-the-century immigrant experience of his own uncle. A stirring, splendidly textured period re-creation. With Stathis Giallelis.

Hammett

(1983) A&E;, Friday at 1 p.m. An imaginary story using a pivotal year in writer Dashiell Hammett’s life does not entirely succeed, but it looks like an opium dream of a T30s detective movie. Frederic Forrest stars as Hammett, who is pulled into searching for a missing Chinese girl. Wim Wenders directed.
