Street May Be Altered to Deter Use as Shortcut
Residents of an Eastview neighborhood have complained to the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council that thousands of drivers are using their once-quiet streets every day as a shortcut between Miraleste Drive and Western Avenue.
The council voted unanimously last week to begin an environmental assessment in preparation for turning a short stretch of Via Colinita into a one-way, westbound street between Enrose Avenue and Miraleste Drive.
Residents said their streets had become thoroughfares used by 5,600 cars per day, a figure verified by the city.
The environmental assessment, which is required by state law, will take six to eight weeks to complete. If the findings favor the change, the council can certify the assessment and approve the change.
If Via Colinita becomes a one-way street, commuters will have to use 1st or 9th streets between Miraleste and Western.
