Three inmates unsuccessfully tried to escape the El Cajon jail after sheriff’s deputies saw bedsheets hanging from a hole punched in the seventh-floor wall, a sheriff’s spokesman said Wednesday.

The three were caught Tuesday evening, shortly after they fell to the second-story roof of the East County Regional Center, which adjoins the jail.

Raymond Harry Stone and Bradley Joel Harris were taken to Grossmont hospital after suffering injuries during the escape attempt. The third prisoner, Jeffrey Harris, was transferred to the downtown jail.

Stone is awaiting trial in last year’s killing of Anita Dalfoss of El Cajon. Bohac was sentenced in December to 15 years for robbery, and Harris was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail on drug charges.
