Searching for Just the Right Table

Share
TIMES STAFF WRITER

Isabel Hancock of Panorama City is looking for a metal folding dining table about 36 inches wide and 72 inches long ; she has seen some that are 30 inches wide, but these won’t do. Can you show your mettle by coming up with a source, or will Hancock have to table her search because she stumbled over her own three feet?

Bernice Canutt of Agua Dulce is in the market for jeans fabric with 2% stretch , the type many clothing manufacturers use. None of the stores she has called carry that material. Can you suit Canutt’s whims, or would it be stretching it a bit to say that she has no chance of being a material witness?

Mrs. Sidney Wallis of Woodland Hills would again like to find a delightful room deodorant called “After You’re Gone,” made by Sterling Chemical Products; in addition to smelling great, she says it was quite a conversation piece. Can you clear the air on this situation, or will Wallis have to wonder whether her favorite scent has perhaps gone with the wind?

Reader-to-Reader-Help Line: N. Payne at (714) 760-0955 is after an electric Mirromatic Popcorn Popper , made by Mirro Aluminum Co. about 20 years ago; the heating unit is built into the popping unit. This may sound corny, but if you could pop up with one of these, Payne would jump with joy. . . . Karen at (213) 461-2550 would like to find a battery-powered or rechargeable Canon P3-D calculator that evidently is no longer made; she likes this model because it can be carried in a briefcase and has paper rolls. How about seeing to it that Karen is once more on a roll?

Note: The Reader-to-Reader Help Line is for one-time items or for products no longer available in stores. And you must give us written permission to publish your telephone number, so that others may contact you directly.

F. Madeira of Alhambra wrote about having found a replacement beater for an old Sunbeam Mixmaster at California Electric Service, a firm with locations all over the state. They also service small appliances, old and new. For a complete list of their locations, send a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Another good source for replacing old and difficult-to-find kitchen items is the Don Stevenson Co., 2727 E. Dutch Ave., Anaheim, Calif. 92806, telephone (714) 630-0706. Phyllis Stevenson has helped many readers with items such as pot handles, frying pans and attachments of all kinds.

For Emma Lee, who was looking for a Corningware cutting board in the 12x18-inch size, we have a sizable source. Barbara Rose Farber of San Bernardino writes that she bought one not long ago at a Pace Club store in her area; she has also seen them at Fedco.

For Alicia Castrellon of Pico Rivera, who wanted a rubber mat with a hole for her garbage disposer, we have several sources at her disposal. Carol Wright Gifts, P.O. Box 8502, Lincoln, Neb. 68544, sells a sink protector in various sizes for $3.95. Jac Lowell of Oceanside and J. L. Michel of Fullerton both write that Rubbermaid makes a rubber mat with six circles on the underside; you cut out the circle that best fits your sink drain. Annie Sattler of Chino says that these rubber mats are available at K mart, Fedco and other places, but they come in only one size; she had to cut two apart and glue them together to make one to fit her sink.

For Mrs. A.G. of Beverly Hills, who was looking for medium-sized terry-cloth trousers, we have two mail-order sources. Joyce Davis of Whittier says that Mondiki, 650 London Bridge Road, Lake Havasu City, Ariz. 86403, makes quality terry clothing; their telephone number is (602) 453-7397. And Charmaine Blatt of Studio City writes that the “Signs of Spring ‘90” catalogue from the Tog Shop, Lester Square, Americus, Ga. 31710 lists several possibilities; their credit-card order number is (912) 924-9371.
