Roos to Try Ballot Initiative to Move Primary to March

SACRAMENTO — A state lawmaker won approval Friday to gather signatures in a bid to place an initiative on the November ballot calling for an early California presidential primary.
The measure by Assemblyman Mike Roos (D-Los Angeles) is an attempt to move up the date if a similar effort in the Legislature fails.
Roos has until July 30 to submit the signatures of 372,178 registered voters to qualify the measure for the ballot.
The measure would advance California’s primary from June to the first Tuesday in March during each presidential election year. It would leave the state primary elections in June during non-presidential years.
