Race Driver Allison Faints, Is Hospitalized
Race car driver Davey Allison was hospitalized after fainting at North Carolina Motor Speedway in Rockingham, N.C., Friday.
Allison, 29, son of longtime NASCAR star Bobby Allison, collapsed after a playful wrestling match with a crew member during a rain delay at the track. He quickly regained consciousness and was checked at the track’s infield care center.
He walked out of the care center, but, at his father’s urging, was taken by private plane to Charlotte Memorial Hospital, about 75 miles away, for further testing. After undergoing several tests, including a CAT scan and an EKG, Allison was admitted. He told callers he was being kept overnight for observation.
Allison had qualified 18th for Sunday’s 500-mile race.
