Gwynn Has Quickest Top Fuel Run
Top Fuel driver Darrell Gwynn recorded the quickest elapsed time in drag racing history Saturday during qualifying for the third-annual Fram Supernationals at Houston Raceway Park.
Gwynn, of Miami, covered the quarter-mile distance in 4.909 seconds at 280.46 m.p.h. in his dragster to surpass the mark of 4.919 set by Gary Ormsby last October at the Texas Motorplex in Dallas.
Other qualifying leaders for today’s final eliminations include John Force in Funny Car and Mark Pawuk in Pro Stock.
Pawuk, of Richfield, Ohio, recorded the quickest run in NHRA Pro Stock history with a 7.220 at 188.36 in an Olds Cutlass, the first time that he has been the No. 1 qualifier.
