The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has approved a $100,000 grant to make earthquake repairs and to expand a detoxification center for indigent alcoholics in Norwalk, according to an aide for Supervisor Pete Schabarum.

The building that housed the Cider Detox/Primary Recovery Center on the grounds of the Metropolitan State Hospital was damaged in the 1987 Whittier earthquake. It has been housed temporarily in another building at Metropolitan.

It will cost $350,000 to renovate and expand the center from 50 beds to 63. The state has pledged to provide the other $250,000, the aide said. The project is scheduled to be completed by August.
