UCLA Women Seeking NCAA Berth

Despite losing its past two Pacific 10 Conference games to Washington State and Washington, the UCLA women’s basketball team stands an excellent chance of receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament if it can beat USC in its regular-season finale tonight at 7 in Pauley Pavilion.
Win or lose, the Bruin women, 16-11 and 11-6 in the conference, are guaranteed to finish no lower than third in the conference.
But Coach Billie Moore said: “If we have any hopes of postseason play, I definitely think we have to be successful. If we lose, I think that would remove any chances.”
However, Dr. Judith Holland, UCLA women’s athletic director and chair of the women’s basketball committee, said: “They’re still the third-place team in the third-best conference in the country, so there’s something to be said for that.”
The Bruins won the first game against USC this season, 83-68, with guard Rehema Stephens leading four players in double figures by scoring 20 points.
The Trojans are 8-18 and 6-11.
