West Hollywood : Malathion Ban Urged
The City Council approved a resolution Monday supporting a statewide initiative banning malathion and other related toxic pesticides used for aerial spraying in the county’s Medfly eradication program.
Council members unanimously approved the motion making West Hollywood among the first cities in Southern California to formalize its position against malathion spraying.
The initiative, sponsored by State Sen. Art Torres (D-Los Angeles), would prohibit aerial spraying of pesticides over urban areas as well as conduct a public health and environmental monitoring program for malathion and other pesticides.
