Siskel Will Review Films on ‘CBS This Morning’

Film critic Gene Siskel will join “CBS This Morning” next week to review motion pictures and videocassettes, the network said Tuesday.

His twice-weekly appearances will not prevent him from continuing to write his syndicated newspaper column and to co-host the popular syndicated TV show “Siskel and Ebert” with Roger Ebert.

Erik Sorenson, executive producer of the CBS morning news program, called Siskel “one of the country’s premier film critics” and said that he will appear regularly on Wednesdays with reviews of new theatrical films and on Fridays with reviews of new video releases.

Sorenson, who took command of the low-rated show late last year, earlier had dropped film commentaries by director Peter Bogdanovich and acknowledged trying to woo Siskel to the program.

After more than a week of pondering, KNBC Channel 4 on Tuesday finally found a spot in its daytime schedule for its parent network’s new talk show, “The Marsha Warfield Show.” The weekday series will air locally at 9:30 a.m., beginning March 26, replacing reruns of “227.” Warfield plays bailiff Roz Russell in NBC’s prime-time comedy “Night Court.”

Paul Gonzalez, a former reporter in Los Angeles for KFWB-AM (980) and NBC News, is returning to take a job as correspondent for CNBC, the NBC-owned cable channel specializing in business and consumer news.

Gonzalez most recently has been a free-lance journalist in Houston. He worked for NBC News in Los Angeles from 1983 to 1986.
